Sicily
The enchanting island of Sicily is full of art, history, breathtaking views and, as always in Italy, superb food.
Stumbled upon by mythical Odysseus but hastily left due to the native Cylops, we found Sicily to be a paradise of sun, sea, sand and olive groves. Flee to the countryside, slumber by the sea and visit the shabby-chic city of Palermo. You’ll see every edge of this triangular island renowned for its friendly people and great food.
An agricultural escape with century old olive trees, a super relaxed environment. Take an afternoon horseback riding through the hills, set sail with local fishermen or chill on one of Sicily’s many beaches.
Try the Isola Bella beach, which is in a little cove with a small causeway out on a nearby island. Would you like to visit some breathtaking islands? Favignana, Marettimo, Ustica and Vulcano are waiting for you… take a boat trip and dive into the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean.
Some history? Valley of Temples: this archaeological wonderland is home to eight grand temples which are two and half thousand years old, or, an ancient Greek theatre is still a hubbub for evening entertainment; see a ballet, cabaret shows or a rock concert, whatever takes your fancy.
Experience the nitty gritty of Sicily in Palermo. Wander through loud, colourful markets filled with fresh produce and sample the street food, cooked fresh right in front of you. A mish mash of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Arabic architecture, this town is full of charm. Visit the remarkable Cathedral whose construction began in 1185 and the Palazzo dei Normanni which was the seat of the kings of Sicily during Norman domination.
Take a cappuccino here in the morning, fresh Sicilian orange juice throughout the day and limoncello into the evening.
Top off your trip with a coastline cruise and see the sunset over this Mediterranean jewel while sipping a glass of perfectly chilled champagne.
